In this study a video compression method has been developed. A discrete
wavelet transform has been applied to a video frame. Wavelet
coefficients were, then, sent to a recently developed quantization
algorithm. The purpose of quantization is to reduce the number of
coefficients used to represent the frame, so that minimum visual
distortion occurs in spatial domain. After that, to minimize the number
of coefficients, a zerotree entropy(ZTE) coding has been performed to
the quantized coefficients. Finally, arithmetic coding has been applied
to compress ZTE symbols and remaining non-zero coefficients. In the
frames that have small color distributions, compression ratio of 10:1
has been achieved. However, in big color distributed frames, compression
ratio was remained at 6:1.
